Elk River Custom Rods - Musky Rod

Specs:

  • 6'10" length
  • Medium Power
  • Fast Action
  • 17-40 # line
  • 1/2 - 2-1/2 oz lure
  • 14" rear grip; 3-1/2" fore grip
  • GX2 Graphite blank

Pros: This rod features deep green-gold and black marbling, as well as a musky inlay, making for a very beautifully finished rod. Even with the reel and line, the weight is very light for such a nice handling rod. The balance is excellent, and the medium power feels more than adequate, almost enough for heavier than suggested lure weights. This rod handles topwater baits excellent, with no extra strain on the rod tip, as found on some lighter rods. The fast action helps make throwing bucktails a breeze. Very impressive strength considering how light this rod is. A friend caught a 49.5" musky with this rod and swears that the fight was nowhere near the limit of this rod.

Cons: Cannot find any cons with this rod.

Recommendations: Our reviewer and those that have tried this rod absolutely love it. It is a true pleasure to fish with and lighter than you would think, with good looks to match.

Bass Pro Shops® Rod Holder Twin Pack

Specs:

  • 2 pack
  • Includes side-mounts
  • Adjustable vertically and horizontally
  • Padded lining
  • Cam lock for easy adjustments
  • $14.99 retail
  • www.basspro.com

Pros: These rod holders come as a two pack and include two side mounts. When properly setup they make for handy and convenient holders for your rods. Low price, especially for a pair. Good range of adjustments.

Cons: You need to put the holder in the mount partway, then turn the holder before pressing down firmly. Otherwise when lifting your rod, you may lift the holder and drop it in the water (yep....been there). Not reversible - cam lock cannot be moved to other side. Not for heavy duty fishing.

Recommendations: For the price, and if you use care when setting them up these can be a really good deal. But if you're not careful, or use heavy equipment you may lose a holder or your fishing equipment. We'll continue to use ours and will simply be careful putting the holder in the mount.

Pros: Line has very little memory and casts extremely well. This line is very tough and we've had no line breakage or any problems whatsoever with the line.

Cons: None

Recommendations: We love this line and highly recommend it.
