The better times to fish are affected by many different things, such as sunlight, water depth, weather, wind, temperature, seasonal changes and more. We'll briefly explain some things you should be aware of. Keep in mind that this is just a simple guideline and doesn't mean you won't catch fish if we show that a particular time is not a good time to fish.

Temperature and Light

Fish are cold-blooded. This means they cannot regulate their body temperature, so they rely on the water around them to control their body temperature. When the water temperature is really high or really low the fishing is usually slower. The extremes in water temperature also decrease the oxygen available in the water, which also makes fish less active.

Fishing is usually better in the morning or evening rather that in the bright sun of the middle of the day. The morning sun warms the shallows first, which brings fish in to the shallows looking for the bait fish. As the sun heats the water during midday, these fish may head to deeper, cooler water.

Fast Fact

Barometric pressure is often used to determine if you may have much success. Typically, a falling pressure influences fish to become more active. Rising pressure leads to a decrease in activity and therefore the fishing is usually not as good.
